EVENT COORDINATOR

Discovery Green transformed two surface parking lots in an under-used portion of downtown Houston into a vibrant green space and a welcoming oasis for all, forever changing our understanding of what a public park can be. Since opening, the park has welcomed more than 20 million visitors and spent more than $10 million on over 10,000 free events. The park boasts six permanent art pieces and has exhibited 26 large-scale temporary public art installations

The creation of Discovery Green remains the catalyst for more than $1.8 billion in development within a two-block radius.

ROLE & IMPACT

  • Managed logistics for over 600 annual events at a 12-acre multi-use urban green space, ensuring high operational standards and adherence to best practices across event lawns and an amphitheater.

  • Coordinated and supervised the scheduling and responsibilities of a cross-functional operations team to meet the technical and logistical needs of both internal and external park events.

  • Reviewed contracts and riders to coordinate and communicate technical requirements such as lighting, sound, staging, video, and other special needs ahead of production dates.

  • Led sales efforts and contract negotiations, serving as the primary point of contact for third-party event rentals to support annual revenue goals, maintain strong client relationships, and ensure cost-effective, high-quality service.

  • Built and nurtured partnerships with community organizations, sponsors, vendors, and other stakeholders to foster effective collaboration.

  • Enhanced event visibility and engagement through targeted marketing strategies, including social media, digital newsletters, community calendars, radio, and print media.

  • Researched and implemented innovative industry best practices and technologies to enhance public engagement with urban green spaces. Practices, identifying innovative technologies and experiences that promote public engagement with urban green spaces.

  • Ranked #4 on USA Today’s 10 Best City Parks (2016).
